Eric Voegelin in Baton Rouge

Puhl, Monika: Eric Voegelin in Baton Rouge

Eric Voegelin (1901-1985) was one of the founding fathers of German political science after World War II. In 1958, he was appointed to the first Chair of Political Science at the University of Munich - twenty years after fleeing to America from the Nazis. Voegelin spent mos of his years in exile at the Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, where he researched and taught between 1942 and 1958. During this very productive period, some of his most important works were written, among them The New Science of Politics. Nevertheless, hardly anything is known about Voegelin's years in Louisiana. This book presents an insight view in the private and professional life of the »European American« Voegelin. His biography is the story not only of his life, but also of a whole generation of scientists wandering as emigrants and re-immigrants between Europe and America. In letters, newspaper articles, and interviews with colleagues and students, this piece of contemporary history comes to life. 181 Seiten mit 5 Abb., broschiert (Periagoge. Studien/Wilhelm Fink Verlag 2005) Ecken etwas bestoßen, Rückenkante beschabt/corners somewhat bumped, spine at the edge somewhat destroyed.
