The aim of this volume is to compare the terminology of cult places in Judaism, Christianity, and Greco-Roman religion from an interdisciplinary perspective, to examine the underlying spatial concepts and to relate them to cultic practices. Bringing together expertise in Bible Studies, Classics, and Archaeology, the volume analyses the conceptions of cult to which the architectural terms refer and the ways in which translation between cultures had a productive effect on these conceptions.
