Belarusian Literature in the 1950s and 1960s

McMillin, Arnold: Belarusian Literature in the 1950s and 1960s

Release and Renewal. The main chapters provide an overview, followed by portraits of four important authors. The aim of this book is not to include all writers who published anything after the death of Stalin, whatever the size of their magnum opus if it still belongs to the pre-1953 period, like, for instance, the epic novel of Pilip Piestrak, "Sustreniemsia na barykadach" (Let us meet on the barricades, 1951-54). Likewise the scale of a writer's earlier achievement does not automatically lead to inclusion here, if the post-Stalin publications offer nothing new, as, for example, in the case of the the last articles of Jakub Kolas. In the assignment of writers to particular chapters the main guiding principle has been the decade in which they first came to prominence; writers treated under The Fifties' will almost all be those whose literary career began under Stalin. 315 Seiten, gebunden (Bausteine zur Slavischen Philologie und Kulturgeschichte.
