Reprint aus: The Homilies of the Anglo-Saxon Church: The First Part Containing the Sermones Catholici, or Homilies of Aelfric in the Original Anglo-Saxon, with an English Version; Vol. 1/The Aelfric Society [for the Illustration of Anglo-Saxon and Early English History and Philology; Part 1.1]/London 1844. This edition contains transcriptions of 40 Old English texts of the earliest known works by Ælfric Abbot of Eynsham, with facing-page translations by Benjamin Thorpe (1781/82-1870). The Sermones Catholici (c.990-95) are adaptations of Latin texts rendered in Old English. The homilies draw on the gospels, saints' lives and other doctrinal themes.
