Die acht Ausgaben der beiden Jahrgänge enthalten rund 40 Aufsätze (vier davon in deutscher Sprache), ferner 12 ausführliche Rezensionen. Bei drei Ausgaben handelt es sich um Themenhefte: 13.1: Perspectives on the Qumran Community: From the Essenes to the Yahad, and Beyond; 12.3: Das Markusevangelium im Brennpunkt der Forschung. Fünf Aufsätze (vier englisch, einer deutsch) bieten anhand unterschiedlicher Ansätze einen Einblick in den Stand und die Vorgehensweise der neueren Markusforschung. 12.1: The Material Gospel. Six essays, considering the gospel as material object: The gospels have always existed as material texts; gospel books were powerful objects, implicated in a range of ritual, theological, economic, and political contexts. - Gegenstand der (überwiegend englischsprachigen) Zeitschrift ist das frühe Christentum als historisches Phänomen. Sie widmet sich den vielfältigen Aspekten, die die Entstehung der christlichen Schriften vornehmlich der ersten beiden Jahrhunderte, ihre Rezeption sowie die Entstehung eines Corpus für die christliche Kirche verbindlicher Texte betreffen. Dadurch wird nicht zuletzt die Geschichte der Charakterisierung von Schriften als "kanonisch" und "apokryph" thematisiert. Die Zeitschrift nimmt dabei ein weites Spektrum von Einzelaspekten - wie etwa die Herausbildung christlicher Gemeinschaften im antiken Kontext, Formen sozialen Lebens, Kommunikationswege und -formen, Konfliktpotentiale sowie Überreste materialer Kultur - in den Blick.
