Passion Theology, Politics, and the Artistic Persona in a French Romanesque Capital. A thorough examination and interpretation of the iconography of the 12th century capital of the cathedral dedicated to Saint Lazarus at Autun, depicting the suicide of Judas. One of the possibilities of interpretation explored is that this is an image of a man realizing in extremis that he could and should have been remembered throughout history as Saint Judas, Apostle and Martyr, rather than as the paradigmatic traitor.
