Reprint der Ausgabe London 1743. Carey komponierte musikalische Farcen und schrieb volkstümliche Kantaten und Lieder. Nach Angaben seines Sohnes war Carey auch der Autor der nachmaligen Nationalhymne des Vereinigten Königreichs, "God save the King". Die Melodie einer seiner Balladen fand Eingang in die "Beggar's Opera". Von seinen Dramen kann "The Honest Yorkshireman" als das bekannteste gelten; von seinen Singspielen "The Contrivances" und "Nancy", die alle in dieser Ausgabe enthalten sind. Die Sammlung enthält die Stücke "Amelia", "Teraminta", "The Dragon of Wantley", "The Dragoness", "Chrononhotonthologos", "The Contrivances", "The Honest Yorkshire-Man" und "Nancy".
